House Creation Hints and Tips
Just a few things to consider when creating a custom House.
1. When choosing a coat of arms or a family crest what is the reason for it? Almost every family crest you come across will look a certain way because of an event or will have some meaning to the members of that house. Does it inspire pride in its family members? Do they use it as a reminder for past glories or past sins?
2. How many family members are there in the family? What are their names/ages? Do they hold any positions outside of the House or do they only look after their own?
3. How do others view the House? Do they know anything of their history? Have they done anything noteworthy they are recognised for? Do they have any alliances? Rivals? Enemies?
4. What are their lands and keep/port like? Is it an ancestral home or a new place for them to settle? Was it built by those that came before them or gifted?
5. Why do they support the Great House they do? Do they bend the knee because they were conquered? Were they made loyal through bribery? Force of arms? Perhaps marriage of some kind ties the minor House to its liege? Are they indebted somehow?
6. How old is the House? Does its history stretch back through the centuries or is it a recent development? If it is old why has it never grown in power or pushed to go beyond its own station? If it is recent how did they become recognised as more than what they were?
7. Which King do they support or do they take the point of view that they serve the Iron Throne no matter who sits on it?
8. Have the members of the house taken part in any events of note in Westeros? How did they perform? Did they fail in their given task or did they excel at the role they played? Were they villains or heroes? Perhaps niether?
