Mercenary Troops
Thugs
Little better than militia these are men who for one reason or another have no place to call their own and through need band together for protection and quite often intimidation. Armed and armoured with whatever they have to had they are little match for most trained armies and have little interest in dying for anyone else.
Cost: (x20 Men) = 100 Dragons
Archers
In terms of range, no other unit in Westeros can compare to them. Armed with longbows that can reach up to 800’ and loose 10 arrows a minute Archers can harass an enemy long before they are in range to retaliate, softening them up for melee units to break them. While at this extreme range the archers can do little against plate armoured warriors, within 100’ the arrows can punch clean through most common plate with ease making them a danger even to knights and their ilk. Best to keep them out of close combat however as they will likely run rather than stand and fight.
Cost: (x10 men) = 500 Dragons
Sell swords
As good as any Westerosi swordsmen, sell swords simple follow a different path, namely one that involves lots of Dragons in their future. Armed with the best that they can afford, these men and women fight for coin and little else, taking their skills on the road as bodyguards of forming together into elite infantry units where their talents with a blade reap greater rewards than they ever could alone.
Cost: (x10) = 500 Dragons
Mercenary Pike men
Armed with long spears, some in excess of 15’, Pike men are drilled and equipped to deal with cavalry. A mounted charge against Pike men is ill advised once they are set to receive it, in fact any kind of charge against pike men in formation isn't wise. Mainly considered a defensive unit, a rightly timed pike charge can catch many combatants off-guard however once melee breaks out their long weapons become a hindrance and with only short swords and chain to protect them they will often come out worse in prolonged engagements.
Cost: (x10) = 500 Dragons
Free Riders
Lightly armed these fast outriders are perfect for scouting and harassing the flanks of an enemy with theirs bows or spears but like all cavalry they should avoid charging into Pike men or getting bogged down in melee combat.
Cost: (x10 men) = 500 Dragons
Hedge Knights(x2): 500 Dragons
Siege Weapons
Battering Ram
Designed to smash through the heavy reinforced doors, the battering ram is slow to move but remarkable effective, able to take considerable punishment as it sets to work.
Cost: (x1 Ram) = 500 Dragons
Siege Ladders
Simple yet effective, siege ladders allow an army to attack high walls and try to gain a foothold.
Cost: (x5 Ladders) = 500 Dragons
Siege Towers
A giant, slow moving structure that can rapidly give a sieging army a foothold on the enemies battlements while offering a reasonable amount of protection against attack while deploying.
Cost: (x1 Tower) = 2000 Dragons
Catapults
Capable of hurling several hundred pounds of boulder or stone over considerable distance, these war machines can devastate a force that tries to hide behind its walls. However slow moving and slow to reload they should be kept out of combat at all costs to avoid losing them.
Cost: (1x Catapult) = 5000 Dragons
Naval Forces
Long Boat
Little more than a river barge made seaworthy and outfitted with a forward mounted tower to offer some protection when landing. Having no keel these vessel can travel through shallow waters such as rivers and estuaries with little danger of striking the bottom. They are not however the most stable of ocean going vessels and should be kept close to the mainland. These ships can support 50 men.
Cost: (x10 Transports) = 1000 Dragons
War Galley
The pride of most Westerosi fleets the War Galley is a warship through and through, with a reinforced wooden hull, and towers both fore and aft to attack and defend from. The fore deck also holds a Ballista used to puncture enemy hulls. The decks are open to allow for naval troops to manoeuvre and prepare or repel boarding actions. Faster than the Troop Barge these ships sacrifice carrying capacity and space below deck for armour, armaments and speed meaning that each can only carry 100 or so men (more can be carried but this restricts the efficiency of the men on deck due to lack of space).
Cost: (x5 Galleys): 2500 Dragons
Special Purchases
~While anyone with gold may purchase general mercenaries, only Mercenary Captains have the connections to organise for this special units to be recruited and prepared for service and in some cases, transported to Westeros.
Mercenaries as a rule of thumb are less dependable then a Lord's bannermen, the following are exceptions and made of braver or more bloodthirsty stuff~
Mountain men of the Vale(x10): 700 Dragons
When one takes the ferocity of the mountain men and provides them with real weapons and armour you'll have one of the most dangerous shock troops in Westeros.
Dothraki Riders (x10): 800 Dragons
Lacking armour but much better riders then a Westerosi Knight. Armed with Arakh & Bow they are every bit as dangerous as their cousins in Dorne.
Unsullied:
Set of 100: 6,000
Set of 1000: 50,000
A light infantry armed with short sword, shield and spear. A slave force that are fearless and seemingly without pain. Some claim they are the best footmen in the world. But keep in mind, slaves are an abomination by both the Old Gods and the New.
Water Dancer (x1): 300 Dragons
Lacking the strength and armour of a Westerosi Knight, these Bravos Fencers are not ideal for large scale battle deployment, but their lightning fast movements make them ideal bodyguards or Captains to larger units.
Other Purchases
Fund an Expedition: 20,000 Dragons
Funding an expedition means your character funds a group to go explore Valyria in search of 'Valyrian Artifacts'. It is the only way in which to acquire a Valyrian Steel Weapon aside from stealing one from a House. Upon purchase the group shall be dispatched and their success will be reported one week later in real time. Success or failure is randomly determined. In the event a success is made, the player may select an appropriate weapon type (long sword or great sword) and give it a name. It shall then become their personal Valyrian Artifact).
Barracks: 50,000 Dragons
A secure, defensible location to house men and equipment in good order. Requires permission by the land/town's Lord to be established. Purchasing a Barracks will create a sub-board for your use.
To make a purchase, please post to this thread and fill in the following:
Character:
Items being purchased: (List by type being purchased and price)
Total Price:
Your Dragons:
Your Dragons after purchase:
Please note, any character may purchase mercenary units however Noble characters may not purchase their limit in the Lord market and then purchase more here. There are only ever so many people to recruit at one time. Mercenary units are cheaper, if not as effective. Don't expect a heroic last stand either, mercenaries are in this for gold as opposed to duty or honour. A dead man can't spend his pay.
Lastly, there is a limit of 100,000 Dragons per week that may be spent in the market. This does not apply to expeditions or construction.
