Post by Torin Lannister on Apr 7, 2012 16:40:56 GMT
Name: Ser Torin Lannister
Age: 31
Place of Birth: Casterly Rock
Current Place of Residence: Casterly Rock
House: House Lannister
Family: Lord Tywin Lannister (Father), Joanna Lannister (Mother, deceased), Cersei & Jaime/Custom (Older siblings, twins), Tyrion/Custom Lannister (Younger siblings)
Bastard Children: Joan Flowers, Jory Hill, Alistair Rivers, Anora & Isabela Sand (twins), Fenton Snow, Emre Stone, Joffrey & Illyria Storm (twins), Harley Waters
Appearance:
Garb: When in attire not fit for battle Torin is fond of leather over silk. He will often wear a silk shirt of Lannister red under a leather riding jacket of beige matched with leather breaches of the same colour. His boots, which are usually heavy are also of a red colour but usually darker then his shirt. Although this general appearance is his favourite, Torin has enough clothes for many variations and other outfits of different occasions.
Ser Torin also wears a ring on the small finger of his right hand, spoil of war from during the Greyjoy Rebellion when he took part in subjugating House Meryln. It amuses Torin that he paid the Iron Price for it during the Greyjoy Rebellion.
Height: 6"6
Weight: 260 lbs
Personality: On first meeting one would think Ser Torin Lannister is an arrogant brute of a man with none of the humility one expects of a Knight. The truth however makes him far more dangerous a man. Ser Torin Lannister is certainly confident to the point of arrogance but to make the mistake of thinking him a brute has been the undoing of many a foe. While he is not as intelligent as his younger sibling Tyrion he is no fool. Torin has capitalised on those who think him a simple minded brute on many occasions, but at the same time he is so arrogant about his skill at arms that he has been made bleed many times by foes he underestimated.
Ser Torin does have some vestiges of honour, as a Knight who was trained by both Rhaegar Targaryen and Stannis Baratheon he learned a certain respect by virtue of respecting the men who taught him if nothing less. He will accept an honourable yield, but most men he forces into the situation to yield are rarely given the oppurtunity to do so. He's a Knight, but he's also a Lannister and what he lacks in political tricks he makes up for in tricks with a blade. Although he has no relationship beyond blood to his bastard children, he's given each one a name and enough coin to see them raised to proper age to take care of themselves.
For what few can call him a friend have a sound ally. He gladly shares drink and breaks bread with the fellow Knights of the Westerlands and will jest & banter deep into the night. He keeps an eye on his own and one who makes move against his friends should be very careful about how they do it, for Torin will make his response swiftly and brutally if perhaps within the confines of Knightly honour. That being said, Ser Torin's reprisals are not always about defending a friend he loves dearly but often a tool in itself for there is many pleasant things to be said by common folk and High Borns about a man who will defend the honour and life of a comrade at risk of one's own life in a duel. Not to mention to be seen in an honourable duel among the streets of Lannisport or King's Landing spreads more quickly among folk then his borderline butchery on the battlefield.
As his only elder brother is a member of the Kingsguard, Torin will one day be Lord of House Lannister and he is very aware of it but for now serves his father faithfully. Although there is nobody alive Torin respects more then his father, he quietly mourns the murder of Elia Martell on the anniversary of her passing, for she was like a mother to him while he was squire to Rhaegar. It is only respect for his father that has held Ser Torin back from brutally murdering Gregor Clegane and burning his House to ashes.

Dislikes:
Weapons: Torin's weapon of choice is Deathroar, a particularly large bastard sword that was crafted for him as a gift from his father after his first major success during the Greyjoy Rebellion. The sword is larger then typical for a bastard sword as it was made to cater for Torin's notable physical size and strength, to a smaller and more lean man it could be considered a great sword.
Although it is Torin's preference to wield the blade with two hands he will normally pair it with a shield bearing the Lannister Crest. His horse normally carries a dozen throwing spears when Torin is part of his father's Host.
Armour: Ser Torin Lannister's suit of Full Plate armour is extremely ornate, primarily golden in colour the suit covers the entirety of his form and is covered in depictions of his personal successes. A lion's face features prominently with one appearing at each knee, elbow and shoulder. Further more his helmet is adorned with a "crest" that resembles a Lion's mane of Lannister red. The suit is completed by a cloak of Lannister red featuring a golden lion.
Skills:
Knight: Ser Torin Lannister is a Knight whom was trained by Rhaegar Targaryen & later Stannis Baratheon, who anointed him a Knight. With his weapon of choice (his bastard sword) being wielded in two hands or matched with its shield Ser Torin is one of the most dangerous fighters in the Realm be it in an honourable duel or on the battlefield, although not as technically proficient as his brother, he's stronger than Sandor Clegane and combining that with his talent he is just as dangerous as Jaime in his own right. Although like many physically massive individuals Torin possesses great physical strength so his strikes can knock many a man off balance he is made special by a natural athleticism and expertise that makes him also highly swift, with finely trained reflexes.
Although his sword is his chief weapon, his Knightly trainings consisted of more. He is of notable talent with a throwing spear. He has been trained in bow and arrow but lacks experience and hasn't actually used one in real combat since Robert's Rebellion. He has certain capability for other weapons that can be used in a similar manner to a sword (such as a mace or axe) but lacks experience and knowledge of the intricacies and particulars of there use. He has on occasion made use of a short handled warhammer, good to be used in one hand as an off-hand weapon. He's also quite dangerous unarmed, having killed men by strangling them with his bare hands or on one occasion broke a man's spine over his knee.
Ser Torin is trained and experienced in riding a horse and at this point it is perfectly natural to him. In combat he is almost as comfortable on horseback as he is on his own two feet but has a preference for fighting on foot as being on horseback limits his movement once a horseback charge loses its momentum. When on horseback he's an expert with the lance and has both tourney wins and battlefield skills to testify to it.
Battlefield Commander: Since the Greyjoy Rebellion Ser Torin has been a Commander of Lannister forces of varying sizes and has in that time has developed talent for leading troops and engaging enemy forces. His theoretical knowledge of how to handle different situations was aided by council from his Knightly tutors Rhaegar & Stannis but also council from his father and others he keeps close, such as his Uncle Kevan.
Educated: Ser Torin was tutored by the Maeter & Septa of House Lannister from when he was very young until he was sent to be squire to Rhaegar Targeryen and later Stannis Baratheon, both whom saw to further the boy's teachings. His "education" in any traditional sense ended but that hasn't stopped Ser Torin from picking up a few things along the way. He'll never be a Maester or write a book on philosophy but Tywin Lannister didn't raise a fool.
Harp: Torin was taught the Harp by Rhaegar. Although Rhaegar loved his harp more then his sword Torin is the other way around, he's no better then a court bard and doesn't tend to play unless at the request of someone he likes.
Weaknesses:
Arrogant: Ser Torin is an extremely talented warrior, blessed with skills few men will ever know. The downside of this is that he doesn't take most opponents very seriously, if a warrior doesn't have a reputation to their name Ser Torin rarely takes the fight seriously, underestimating his opponents has blessed the Lannister with half a dozen scars on different points of his chest and arms.
Arrow Pin Cushion: Ser Torin is a frontline Commander who adorns himself in extremely distinctive armour. While there's lots of glory to be found on the frontlines, it also means he's extremely vulnerable to archers. As he only tends to bring throwing spears into battle his only ranged capabilities are rather limited.
An absolute Cad: Ser Torin has at least one bastard in every Kingdom of Westeros and the idea of taking a beautiful noble woman's virtue is just about irresistible to the Lion. While for the most part this just brings shame to the family, if one wanted to assassinate Ser Torin Lannister, sending an exotic beauty to lay with him until he slumbers then poisoning him is probably a fine way to go about it.
Fury of the Lion: Ser Torin Lannister isn't used to hearing 'no' except from his Father and there's very few people he respects enough to take 'no' as an answer. He's also very used to being the handsome, witty Knight and he's made great effort to cultivate a certain reputation. If someone embarrasses Torin Lannister he will usually wait until no others are around before throwing an absolute temper tantrum, both someone who knows of these rages could very well provoke the rather hot headed Knight into action and while he can still chop off someone's head when he's in the middle of a rage, he's also thinking much less and thus ultimately more vulnerable,
History: Torin Lannister was brought screaming into the world in 268 AL, born to Joanna & Tywin Lannister. When he was two years old his mother passed away giving birth to his only younger sibling and as such Torin have extremely little memory of his mother. Growing up in Casterly Rock he went wanting for nothing but perhaps time to play, for the Maester's lessons seemed to never end.
In 280 AL when Torin was twelve years old he was sent to squire under Rhaegar Targaryen, in truth living with Rhaegar were some of the happiest years of Torin's life. While Rhaegar was often dour, he was nurturing and compassionate in a way Torin was not used to being raised in Casterly Rock and Rhaegar's wife, Elia was kind and motherly to the young Lannister boy.
In 282 AL the war that would become "Robert's Rebellion" Torin stayed faithfully at Rhaegar's side as his squire, now having been so for two years. Torin was present at the Battle of the Trident and watched helplessly as Rhaegar was killed by Robert Baratheon. Torin was captured moments later and held for the duration of the war, until he was handed over to Tywin Lannister following his siding with Robert and Jaime's killing of Aerys. When Torin found out his father had commanded the murder of Elia Martell it was the first time Torin drank until he vomited, mourning the loss of not only his mentor but also the woman whom had been like a mother to him.
While Cersei was married off to Robert, Torin was sent to squire under Stannis Baratheon in Dragonstone. Although Torin harboured a grudge against all Baratheon's following Rhaegar's death over the course of the two years he was with Stannis he grew to respect the man and by the time Stannis Knighted Torin in late 285 AL the Lannister had learned that the only Baratheon worth hating was Robert.
Four years later Ser Torin was a Knight who spent most of his time enacting his father's will and taking part in Tourney, of which he was enjoying greater and greater success in the melee's. Then the Greyjoy Rebellion broke out and the Sons of Pyke burned the Lannister fleet. Ser Torin led a Lannister Host of moderate size and joined with his old mentor Stannis Baratheon and aided him in subjugating Great Wyk.
Ser Torin's personal success as a Commander during the Greyjoy Rebellion earned him his Father's approval like never before and Tywin had the large bastard sword "Deathroar" forged for his son. Since then Ser Torin has sat at his Father's council table and has regularly commanded Lannister forces. Most recently Ser Torin has been in raven contact with Lady Lena Arryn of The Vale whom offers her hand in marriage in exchange for a Lannister Army to aid her and a number of Vale bannermen in removing her child brother Robert as Lord of the Vale and Warden of the East in favour of her, a proven Commander and Leader. While obtaining a beautiful warrior bride is much to Ser Torin's approval, in truth it would mean once he succeeds his father it will leave Torin & Lena with combined control of the Westerlands & The Vale while being Wardens of both the West and East.
Eventually Torin Lannister and Lady Lena Arryn were wed in King's Landing, he also assisted her in removing her half-brother and step mother from power in the Vale, Lena's half brother was banished to the Wall to remove his claim and the step-mother was sent back to the Vale. The marriage was rocky to say the very least, every step forward was halted by two steps backward. It was evidently clear they did not marry for love. As the attack of Stannis Baratheon came closer and closer, the two appeared to be making progress until Lady Lena fled back to the Vale without warning.
When Stannis attacked, Ser Torin defended the walls. Now that his former mentor has been sent back to Dragonstone licking his wounds, Ser Torin is preparing for an assault on the island-fortress before dealing with his renegade wife.
RP Sample:
Ser Torin watched as Carrow lead his men in a counter-charge, such a thing would be risky but it was near suicidal with so few men, even with the mass of archers the united army of Westeros had brought together to provide cover and support. Lena was at his side wondering what he would do. His eyes scanned around him. He had to make a gut call and he had to do it now.
"We counter-charge, anything on a horse rides out. Knights at the front to break their front, the savages have no reliable means to pierce the armour of a knight. Horsemen ride up the flank to support. We speak charge, into the center. If all goes well we shall shatter their front line and deny them momentum." The Juggernaut that was the Dothraki would have to be stopped.
Torin took the reigns of his horse and moved forward, a call to his Knights and Horsemen to come up with him. They knew what to do and fell into place, with another call the horsemen his father had brought to battle moved up to support. Now the charge would be over six thousand strong! Capable Lannister horsemen with Torin and a pair of Knights at his front. "I charge our foe, those who would come to my side, do so now!" The Lannister Cavalry got into position in front of the army. He signaled to the Tyrell force, Delphin had offered command of his army to Torin. It was a wise move, it turned two armies into one army. With Tywin's force present, that single striking force got larger all the still.
Without need for a further word the Tyrell horsemen rode up, proud and strong they took position for a mighty spear charge into the enemy horselords. They were now over eleven thousand strong! They had a damn good chance to doing it. A damn good chance. "Lena, my wife. Whatever has happened before, you have with you a further thousand horsemen and ten well armed Knights, I need you at my front to aid the charge." The decision to put the lives of her Knights on the line was hers to make, but Torin had to move now.
He gave her only a moment to decide while the troops were fixing their formation and then it was time to ride out. Lannister, Tyrell and any who would join them rode out towards the foe. Arrows sailed clear overhead as the front lines of the Lannister and Tyrell archers unleashed steel rain.
The Captains of the infantry knew what to do. Once the spear charge had struck they would need support, so they prepared to march.
Torin lead the charge now, riding hard and fast to close the distance between the horselords and those of Westeros. "Hold on Carrow, I'm coming!" It was soon followed by a mighty warcry, Deathroar being held high in one hand as Torin prepared to unleash righteous wrath.
