Name: Lucifer Whitecrest
Age: 45
Place of Birth: Whitecrest, in the Crownlands
Current Place of Residence: Mobile, occasionally Qarth
House: None, formerly 'House Whitecrest of the Crownlands'
Family:
Wife: L'inarra Whitecrest, formerly of House Hightower
Son: {Open} Whitecrest
Daughter: {Daughter} Whitecrest
Appearance:
Garb: Lucifer still dresses like a Westerosi noble, as he still considers himself 'noble,' fine silks and linens are quite common in his attire, especially now that he lives in the very warm Essos.
Height: 6'1ft
Weight: 180lbs
Personality: Lucifer Whitecrest is a not nor does he have a knights honour. Lucifer Whitecrest is a soldier and a Commander. He is iron willed and and dutiful. Among his peers he is respectable and amiable. He does not dally with his social lowers. He makes no effort and has no interest in drinking with his men to be seen as a favoured Commander. He sits and sups with the highest ranking men in his Company or the Magistrates or Merchants in whichever Essos city is he camped at. He is prone to smiling, but rarely laughs.
Lucifer holds everyone to the same level of standards he holds himself. During the early days of his mercenary work in Essos fifty of his men routed instead of holding against a superior force. Lucifer ordered 'decimation' and the men drew lots to determine which five of those men would be beaten to death by those the other forty five. One hand pays coin to reward, the other holds the lash to punish and each is used in accordance with a man's merit and station.
Likes:
Dislikes:
Weapons: When Lucifer rides into battle he'll first made use of a spear and shield. If he is deprived of his horse he will make use of a long sword, also paired with a shield. In case of emergencies, a dagger is usually worn on his belt.
Armour: Lucifer wears a suit of silver gilded plate, it is largely unadorned but for a pair of golden bulls facing each other upon his chest plate. He will usually keep his helm removed for visibility, but will place it on if entered battle personally. He will often wear a cloak with a heavy fur mantle upon his shoulders, which runs to purple cotton with silver lining.
Skills:
Commander: First and foremost, Lucifer Whitecrest is a Commander. A master strategist he is fond of deception and subterfuge on the battlefield. Some might refer to him as the Randyll Tarly of the Crownlands, high praise indeed. He is not a Knight nor was he ever educated in Knightly honour and when a Knight led force wishes to meet him in the open field he will gladly use a Knights 'honest' tactics against them. He keeps him men in line with both fear and respect. If his men fear what's before them more then what's behind them, he quickly rectifies it. He promotes discipline and uniform, promoting synergy within the ranks with well practiced tactics over relying on 'Champions' to keep morale high by achieving single glory on the battlefield.
Perhaps his most dangerous trait as a Commander, he always gives him opponents their due respect. Be the foe a Dothraki savage, a Baratheon rebel or a anything in between he acknowledges their strengths and successes. Lucifer Whitecrest never underestimates a foe.
Commerce: Lucifer can manipulate coin as well as a battlefield. Before departing Westeros he had multiplied the fortunes of House Whitecrest through supporting the farms and establishing a stronger grain trade in the Crownlands which financed a venture in real estate speculation. Since becoming a Commander of Mercenaries he had used his shrewd economic tactics to negotiate lucrative contracts and keep his Company well supplied.
Soldier: Lucifer Whitecrest is not a knight, but he is a highly proficient soldier. He was trained by the Master-At-Arms of Whitecrest Castle when he was a youth and although he Commands 'from the back' so that he can oversee the battlefield, has on occasion needed to dirty his hands in combat himself and has gained significant experience to hone his trainings in the sword, shield and spear. Although there would be little he could do but defend himself against an opponent like Barristan Selmy or Jaime Lannister for as long as possible, he is sufficiently proficient in personal combat to swiftly dispatch the common stock of soldier or knight.
He is also in excellent physical condition for a man of his age, his body is wiry with lean, tight muscle. Ideal for a soldier to balance speed and strength.
Weaknesses:
View of the Men: While some Lords or leaders make an effort to become familiar with the commonfolk and soldiers under there command, Lucifer has no time for such a purile effort at kinship with the men. As a result, Lucifer is quite distant and unapproachable to commonfolk, while this gives him a respectability, it also means his men have no love for him as anything beyond a capable Commander and source of pay.
Lacks range: Lucifer is trained in combat with sword and shield or spear and shield. He was never trained in use of the bow and has made no effort to learn it, believing it to be a weapon for lower standing men and cowards. While he can make use of a crossbow due to its ease of use, he is no marksman and on the battlefield has no means of striking out at an opponent.
History:
Lucifer was born in 255 AL to House Whitecrest, a Crownlands noble house of moderate standing. His father was a good man that primarily served in the court of Jaehaerys II and later Aerys II. Lucifer was always an ambitious young man, when given his first responsibilities by his father he took to aiding the commonfolk in improving the farms. A year later he reaped a stronger harvest and negotiated to sell grain to fully half the Lords of the Crownlands.
Lucifer's father died in 275 AL and Lucifer went straight to work. He maintained his fathers position in court but fond himself in an increasing position where he was tolerating because of his growing wealth but the men from families of more renowned standing shunned his efforts at furthering himself.
When the War of the Usurper broke out and Aerys Targeryen called his banners, House Whitecrest was among the first to answer the call. Despite his obvious prowess as a Commander and the number of sellswords he provided to bolster the Royalist army, Command was continually given to men of higher noble standing but lower merit in action.
Lucifer Whitecrest led his men in the battle of the trident along with all the other Crownland Lords and those involved in the fighting under Rhaegar. When noble Rhaegar died, so too did Lucifer's hopes of furthering himself under a King that would recognise merit over birth.
When the war was won and all the Royalist Lords were bending the knee, Lucifer liquidised his House's assets and sailed across the Narrow Sea to establish his fortune and and further himself.
After purchasing a Manse in Qarth he looked to find what he could exploit with investment. Essos was a place of Merchant Princes, his opponents in matters of coin proved far more shrewd then the low cunning-in-coin of Westeros. Real military Commanders were a rarity however.
Lucifer poured half his fortune into trade and half into forming a mercenary company (using the sigil of his now dissolved House, a gold bull upon a field of red) of which he styled himself 'Lord-Commander,' being a Noble born Commander. Lucifer became famous for the 'decimation' event he put he company through, which has kept morale under control ever since and gave him notoriety. Since then he has performed many contracts throughout Essos and used the profits on his trade venture to keep the company well supplied. Most recently he has capitalised on the panic and confusion following the assassination of Qarth's 'Thirteen,' acquiring significant trading assets and making him the wealthiest Mercenary-Captain in Essos.
Now he forms a contract with a Yunkai Noble woman.
